HUF 2 Billion Development of Millenáris Is about to Start

November 17th, 2014
The constructions aiming to enhance the area of Millenáris Park are to be started this fall. Several buildings have been knocked down to be able to provide more space to create new green areas in the park. Knocking down the buildings has cost HUF 970 million, and the remaining similar works will cost another HUF 950 million.

Knocking Down a Building on Margit körút Was an Important Step

The Hungarian government announced in spring 2013 that Millenáris needed to be renewed. One of the most important steps of the reconstruction was the knocking-down of a building located on Margit körút, which was a major hindrance to the airflow and ventilation of the region. But the works had to be paused in May, since an element of the construction cracked, thus a part of the building had to be knocked down.

The Area Where the Building Used to Stand Is Now a Parking Lot

The construction continued in June. The area where the building used to be standing is now functioning as a temporary parking lot for Mammut shopping center. Entries were invited for a tender to get ideas how the area should be used in the future. Until this February 230 entries were sent in, and 23 of them were found valuable. The best ideas will be used as inspiration when inviting entries for a tender for an architectural design.

Millenáris Teátrum Also Gets Renewed

With the aim of strengthening the cultural image of Millenáris Park Millenáris Teátrum also gets renewed. According to the plans the Hungarian Dance Theatre can move in the new building for the upcoming 2015/2016 season.
