Reconstruction of Nyugati tér Is to Be Ready in 3 Months

June 2nd, 2015

The reconstruction of Nyugati tér has been started, and is expected to be finished in 3 months. During the reconstruction the bus routes will be changed, but car traffic won’t be detoured. The construction started on May 11, and according to the expectations a modern square with a large green area will be opened in 120 days. During the constructions the bus stops of the lines no. 9, 914, 934 and 950 and tram replacement buses will be relocated to 29 Szent István körút and 6 Váci út.

Nyugati Hasn’t Been Renewed for More than 30 Years

The square hasn’t been renewed since 1982, thus its structure and aesthetics are quite outdated. During the reconstruction new street furniture is to be placed on the square, new green areas will be built, and a modern community space is to be created. Due to the constructions traffic jams can occur on Jókai utca, but on Nyugati tér, Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út and Szent István körút traffic is expected to remain undisturbed.

Nyugati Is One of the Busiest Traffic Junctions

Nyugati tér in the 6th district is one of the busiest traffic junctions in Budapest. The public space formerly known as Marx tér with the peculiar ring-shaped digital clock is a popular meeting spot among the locals.
